Golden Retrievers Puppies - General Information
Golden Retrievers are friendly, reliable, and trustworthy dogs. Thus they are not aggressive at all and such traits of character as hostility towards other dogs or people and quarrelsomeness are not the characteristics of the breed. If the dog was socialized incorrectly such actions can take place but they naturally should be penalized according to their significance.
Golden Retrievers Puppies - Size
Height Dogs: 22-24 inches (56-61cm.); bitches: 20-22 inches (51-56cm.).
Weight Dogs: 60-80 pounds (27-36kg.); bitches: 55-70 pounds (25-32kg.).
Life Span About 10-12 years.

This breed was developed in the British Isles and it is actually a result of crosses, made by Lord Tweedmouth from 1864
onwards. These crosses were between such breeds as yellow Flat-Coated Retrievers,
light-coated Tweed Water Spaniels, and other spaniels, setters and even the
Newfoundlands and possibly the Bloodhounds. From the very beginning the breed was called and shown as a Golden Flat-Coat. Many representatives of this breed participated in obedience competitions.
The reasons influencing Lord Tweedmouth's decision to start these researches was the specific aim to produce a good-looking yellow colored and flat-coated retriever. Thus, the Flat-Coated Retriever was taken to his estate at Guisechan, near Inverness in Scotland.
There it was mated to a Tweed Water Spaniel, a breed that is long extinct now, and then breeding later on from the offspring of this mating using the occasional outcross to an Irish Setter, a second Tweed Water Spaniel and a black Flat Coated Retriever. The dogs that appeared were very strong and grand workers; they were biddable and attractive.
The breed was not presented to the public until 1908. The founder of the breed had formed a great liking for it and began a selection of the best representatives. At first the Golden Retriever was presented at the Kennel Club Show in 1908 and was entered in a class for Any Variety Retriever. After that presentation there were many people that wanted to take the breed. The term 'Golden Retrievers' was first coined around this time, and has been attributed to Lord Harcourt.
