Golden Retrievers Puppies - Breed Usage
The Golden Retrievers are most favored and valued dogs to be used as family pets. This breed was used as a fine bird dog on both land and in the water. The dog has an excellent nose and has been used not only for hunting and for tracking, but also for assisting police in narcotics
detection. The breed is also used as a guide for the blind, a therapy dog, and a service dog for the disabled thanks to the good character of the dog and its intelligence.
The breed belongs to the group of Gun dogs and sporting dogs. It is a beautiful, sturdy, well-proportioned dog with a feathered, medium-length, cream to golden-colored coat. As the dog was used as a bird hunter in the water it has a double coat; the outer coat is water-repellent and the undercoat is dense.
Golden Retrievers Puppies - General Characteristics
Being well-mannered, intelligent dogs they are easily trained, and always patient and gentle with children. They are very active, loyal, confident, sweet and eager to please their masters. The dogs enjoy pleasing their masters excelling in obedience competitions. They are very friendly with everyone, including other dogs, children and strangers.
This is a people oriented breed that prefers to be close with the family while being at the same time good watchdogs having guarding instincts. They are not aggressive and are unlikely to attack although they will loudly signal a stranger's approach. When the dogs are left alone for long periods of time with nothing to do, they may become mischievous.

Among some of the Golden Retriever's talents are hunting, tracking, retrieving, narcotics detection, agility, competitive obedience, and performing tricks. These dogs also love to swim. Originally the dogs were bred to be hunting companions and retrieving upland birds and water fowl. Nowadays they are popular family pets and housedogs.
Golden Retrievers Puppies - Breed Health
On the whole this is a healthy breed although they can be prone to hip dysplasia and congenital eye defects. When taking a Golden Retriever puppy you will need to have all the necessary certification (OFA and CERF) from both parents. That is why parents should also be checked for Von Willebrand's disease and heart problems. Skin allergies are common in Golden Retrievers and require immediate veterinary attention.
