Golden Retrievers Puppies - Breed Ancestry

It is rather hard to trace the ancestors of the breed although some of these dogs exhibit characteristics that are found in Bloodhounds and Water Spaniels. Golden Retrievers make excellent gundogs because they have very keen tracking abilities. They say that the breed has been developed 150 years ago or so by Lord Tweedmouth of the United Kingdom.

Golden Retrievers Puppies - Character

The Golden Retriever possesses a natural working ability and is very obedient and intelligent. They are a kind and friendly dog, full of confidence and tend to treat their family and strangers alike. This breed makes good family pets since they are very good with children. As with all animals though, children must be taught to respect them. As far as the sex of the dog is concerned, both sexes make loyal or loving companions; albeit that there is difference in the temperament between dogs and bitches.

Golden Retrievers Puppies - Puppy Feeding

The dog should be fed puppy food until 12-18 months or until as advised by your vet. If the dog growth is too rapid, you may switch to adult food much earlier. Regular visits to the vet are necessary.

Golden Retrievers Puppies - Training Young Puppies

When training a young Golden Retriever you need not to be too hard on discipline and training should be moderate. The puppy does not need a lot of exercise and short walks on a lead will be quite satisfactory. At the age of 8 months, free running and longer walks are recommended for puppies of Golden Retrievers.
